Ms. Leala Taylor

My name is Leala Taylor and I am thrilled to be your vice principal at Phillis Wheatley Elementary School. I grew up in Kansas City, KS and I am part of a very large family. I am the proud mother of two daughters, and I have one grandson.

I began my career as a general education teacher. I taught kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade. I was a classroom teacher for nine years before moving into administration. I have had the opportunity to have several leadership positions. I have served as Director of Education for both a non-profit day treatment facility and for Sylvan Learning. In addition, I have been an assistant principal and building principal in the Kansas City Kansas school district. Also, I have had the pleasure of working as a consultant for Learning Sciences International. In each of these positions I have had the opportunity to inspire excellence in children, support families, and empower staff to learn and to grow.

Wheatley is a community working together to achieve academic, social, and emotional growth for our students. I look forward to working together to navigate our students’ journeys positively and successfully.
